Today’s Take Action Tuesday is brought to us by Gretchen Goldman from the 500 Women Scientists leadership team.
October 14th is Indigenous Peoples Day, a day when we can recognize and celebrate the work and culture of Indigenous communities and reflect on how we can better counter the erasure of Indigenous and Native cultures from our society.
Consider and change the ways your own words and actions contribute to erasure of Indigenous communities or uphold colonial frameworks. Seek out ways of uplifting the Indigenous voices in STEM. Join SACNAS. Educate yourself and do your part to decolonize science.
Demand that your institutions stop perpetuating colonial narratives. More than 60 cities and states, along with many institutions, have officially redesignated Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples Day. Demand that your university, city, and state do the same.
