Today, March 31, is trans visibility day - a day to celebrate transgender people and raise awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide. Visibility is not just about seeing trans people as individuals. Visibility is about learning the history of the trans rights movement and how trans right intersect with other movements for equality. Visibility is about showing up and working to dismantle the many systems of oppressions trans people face in society.
Amid a global pandemic, the visibility of the most marginalized among us is more important than ever.
Just yesterday, the governor of Idaho signed two anti-transgender bills that clearly violate civil rights into law. This is 2020 and the state of Idaho is officially sanctioning anti-trans discrimination, from not letting trans boy and girls play on teams that align with their gender identities to making it illegal for trans people to change their genders on official documents.
This Take Action Tuesday—and every day—we are re-sharing some actions you can take to show your continued support:
Support transgender organizations like Trans LifeLine. They are an important resource for the Trans Community. Since 2004, they have provided resources, a hotline and microgrants. Other great organizations: Transgender Law Center, Trans Justice Funding Project, Borealis Philanthropy.
