Righting the gender imbalance in Covid-19 media coverage - Request a Woman in STEMM

As the new coronavirus dominates the news, scientists are quoted as experts, and highlighted as leaders on the front lines of research. Despite the many women leading Covid-19 research, it’s usually men in the spotlight. We can help change that.

  1. Are you or a woman colleague involved in COVID-19 research, or have expertise in the field of infectious disease, epidemiology, virology, or related fields? Please sign up for the Request a Woman in STEMM database of women experts, which is a resource for both scientists and media. Help spread the word to your colleagues! Be sure to include relevant keywords so journalists can easily find you. If you are already registered, you can update your keywords at any time, just log-in to your profile with the email address you signed up with.

  2. Tweet about your, or a women colleague’s, SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 research, and tag @500womenscientists in your tweet and we will help amplify.

  3. Has your university been highlighting Covid-related research? If you feel there are women who have been overlooked, reach out your PR office and request more equitable coverage.
