WE HAVE NOW GROWN TO OVER 17K WOMEN, GROWING SO FAST IT IS HARD TO KEEP TRACK OF WHO EVERYONE IS! TODAY WE RE-POST THE INTERVIEW WITH OUR CO-FOUNDERS KELLY RAMIREZ AND JANE ZELIKOVA.
Weekly Wrap-Up
Much of our energy over the last few months has gone to resisting. At the same time, we want to make sure we continue to empower women and girls in science. Pods are meeting across the world, and we are so excited to help bring so many women together across disciplines and career stages. Explore our newly revamped website to see what we are up to. We are also starting the application process for 501c3 status to be able to grow and support our network! And we have a few more big announcements:
Pod of the Week Alaska
It is so wonderful to get to know our many pods! Each one has a different focus. While the DC group we heard from last week is focused on activism, the Alaska pod we talk to day is thinking about how to grow their network of women scientists in their state, and how to reach out to young girls. They also have great suggestions if you are starting your own pod. Thanks Alaska, can't wait to see what else comes from your group!
Take Action Tuesday
To close out International Women’s Month, we dedicate this week’s actions to our young, aspiring scientists. Let’s support and inspire the next generation.
1) Have you scheduled time to visit a k-12 classroom or summer camp this year? Now is the time! We want to hear about your outreach activities, post below!
There are many wonderful programs supporting young women in science. Here are a few that you may want to reach out to for volunteer opportunities.
2) We would also like to build a resource page for young women - help us find more and add them to the comments section!
Meet a young scientist
It is the last week of Women's History Month, and this week we look to our future, to the girls and young women of science. Each day this week we will address a different topic related to girls in science. Today on #meetascientist, we share the essays from two young women who reached out to 500WS early on.

Women Scientists of Europe Unite
Science and technology are integral to all aspects of our life — from medicine and the environment to energy and trade. Today, more than ever, breakthroughs in science towards solving society’s biggest challenges are best made by collaborations across national boundaries, by interdisciplinary research, and, foremost, by bringing together diverse scientific minds. Yet, while it is well established that diversity leads to better science, women, people of colour, immigrants, LGBTQIA, and disabled people continue to face ubiquitous and well-known challenges in sciences across the world and across Europe.
